HESC 2020 Instructor Position Summary
Hmong Enrichment Summer Camp (HESC) has been established in 2013 and since then have supported the Twin Rivers Unified School District students and families and provided employment to interested college students and graduates for an opportunity to gain experience in teaching. Due to COVID-19, HESC will continue through it's Virtual Program 2020. HESC Virtual Program 2020 is a 6-weeks summer program in Sacramento promoting Hmong and English language literacy, Hmong American history, cultural awareness through music, art, and various physical activities, as well as and self-development to Twin Rivers Unified School District students in grades Kinder to 12th Grade. The ultimate goal of the program is to build competency and proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing for all students. The Virtual Program will require staff to work through ZOOM and Google Classroom.

HYPU is a non-profit organization that was created in 2008 and reestablished in 2012 with the vision to empower under-served communities. The mission of HYPU is to provide and promote educational, social, economic, health and wellness opportunities to under-served communities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Hmong Language Instructor will implement instructional lessons and classroom activities in Hmong and English to teach language literacy, Hmong American History, and cultural awareness for 1 1/2 hour of ZOOM Classroom teaching and host three 30 minutes small group intervention. In addition to virtual classroom responsibilities, language instructors will assist in and attend all program orientation, training, program preparations, and celebrations, if applicable.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Hmong Language Instructor will implement instructional lessons and classroom activities in Hmong and English to teach language literacy, Hmong American History, and cultural awareness for 1 1/2 hour of ZOOM Classroom teaching and host three 30 minutes small group intervention. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a virtual classroom with a student to adult ratio of 11:1
- Plan, review, organize, and implement age/grade appropriate lessons for the selected grade levels
- Assist with developing discipline techniques and classroom management
- Ensure measurable improvement in children’s wellness and social performance
- Take attendance and complete student evaluations and reports
- Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities
- Participate in on-going training opportunities
- Provide quality interaction and communication with parents, students, staff members, and program coordinator
- Perform related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
If hired, the applicant will go through the process of fingerprint/background clearance*, TB test**, and job training if not already employed with Twin Rivers Unified School District. All hired applicants must go through the entire process before they can work onsite with students. Additionally, all hired staff members are expected to start working June 1, 2020 until July 31, 2020 and report to the Program Coordinator.
*Receive fingerprint clearance from TRUSD
**Submit a TB clearance from a physician or medical facility

Knowledge of:
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to assist and instruct lessons
- Hmong and English language literacy
- Research and use supplemental materials for instruction
- Completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent, and 48 college semester units
- Read, write, and speak Hmong and English at a level necessary for planning and implementing curriculum
- Organize and direct a variety of activities for groups of elementary, middle, and high school students online
- Maintain patience while working with students
- Utilize Zoom, Google Classroom, Google Drive
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with program staff, students, and parents
- Be flexible, take initiation, communicate
