Check out what's new with HYPU!
Dear family, friends, community members, sponsors, and community partners:
For the last three years, I have lead Hmong Youth & Parents United (HYPU) as its Board President and Chief Executive Officer, a volunteer position with no compensation. After many years of strategic and frugal budgeting, HYPU was able secure enough funds to hire its first Executive Director. Today, on behalf of HYPU, I am proud to introduce HYPU’s first Executive Director, Mai Yang Thor. During my duration of leading the organization, I have observed Mai Yang take on significant roles that contributed to the success of HYPU’s programs and projects. She exhibited an astounding amount of passion and leadership in her work. She brought forth results that were beyond expected. As stated by John C. Maxwell, a well-known author who writes about leadership, “ A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position.” Through my years of seeing Mai Yang’s work outside of and within HYPU, I am confident and trust that her passion to serve the Hmong community will fulfill her vision which aligns with the vision of HYPU. For the remainder of the year, I will continue to support Mai Yang in her capacity as Executive Director. I respectfully ask that our family, friends, and community members and partners give Mai Yang a warm welcome and provide her with the support that she will need to succeed as HYPU’s Executive Director. I look forward to the expansion of HYPU and how it will continue to serve our communities in Sacramento. Very truly yours, Cathy Thao, J.D.
