HYPU Scholarship 2019
Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is a non-profit organization that was created in 2008 and re-established in 2012 with the vision to empower under-served communities. The mission of HYPU is to provide and promote educational, social and economic opportunities to under-served communities.
It is through their scholarship committee, that HYPU’s mission comes to life. Annually bringing together like-minded community volunteers, who share a common goal to fundraise, and have all proceeds go towards scholarships that will help support students with pursuing higher education.
Award Amount
Six $500 scholarships are available to incoming college freshmen, current undergraduate and graduate students.
Eligibility (Must meet all criteria)
1. Candidate must currently be attending a 2-4 year accredited college or university in California OR candidate must have graduated high school and will be attending a 2-4 year accredited college or university in California.
2. Candidates must have at least one parent of Hmong ancestry.
3. Part-time or full-time students are eligible to apply.
Application Checklist
1. Complete the Online Application (Student Information and Essay Question)
2. Unofficial Transcript Email to scholarshipprogram@hypu.org
3. Proof of College Admissions (For high school seniors only). Email to scholarshipprogram@hypu.org
4. Letter of Recommendation (From either a personal or professional member of society). Email a PDF version to scholarshipprogram@hypu.org
Deadline
A completed online application and all supplemental documents must be submitted by 11:59pm on Friday, June 7, 2019.
Recipient Notification and Award
Six students will be selected by a panel of judges. Scholarship recipients will be notified by Wednesday, July 31st, 2019, and then be presented the scholarship at HYPU's National Night Out, on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019.
