HYPU Community Ambassador Application

Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is now accepting applications for the 2025–2026 Community Ambassador Program under the Disparity & Prevention Program (DPP).
The Community Ambassador program is a 1 year program that trains community members about HYPU programs and services, with a focus on intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Community Ambassadors will outreach and engage the community, and share HYPU and the Regional Center services. Ambassadors will help identify and refer individual experiencing I/DD to HYPU for service navigation services.
Program Overview:
Funded by the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) through its Service Access and Equity (SAE) Grant, this initiative strengthens community capacity, raises awareness about developmental disabilities, and supports equitable access to services through the Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) and local partners.
Ambassadors will:
- Attend monthly ambassador meetings on disability services, service navigation, and community engagement.
- Conduct community outreach and lead one service project.
- Share community feedback and insights to guide future equity efforts.
Program Commitment & Benefits:
- Term: December 2025 – October 2026
- Positions Available: up to 10 Community Ambassadors
- Meetings: Monthly at HYPU’s Hope Center (631 Eleanor Ave., Sacramento, CA 95815)
- Stipend: $2,400–$4,000, distributed in May and October 2026
- Requirement and Commitment:
Attend 10 sessions, complete 9 monthly reports, 1 service project and 1 pre and post participant survey.
Ambassadors will receive ongoing training about generic services, DDS services and processes, and assist HYPU in outreach and engagement in the community.
Ideal Candidates:
We welcome applicants who:
- Identify or ally with Hmong, Mien, Laotian, or other underserved communities.
- Passionate about inclusion, disability equity, and social justice.
- Communicate effectively in English and/or community languages.
- Commit to regular meetings, outreach, and community engagement.
- Live within the 10 counties service area of ALTA California Regional Center (Alpine, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba County).
