What is the Hmong Enrichment Summer Camp?
In partnership with Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD), the Hmong Enrichment Summer Camp (HESC) is a 6-week summer program promoting Hmong and English language literacy, Hmong American History, and cultural awareness through music, art, and various physical activities. HESC values student learning through fun and structured activities, building relationships with teachers and peers, and embracing language, culture, and diversity.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position is an internship. The Hmong Instructor Aide will inspire and prepare every scholar with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to the community; and engage in a lifetime of learning. The candidate will assist an instructor, participate in a youth circle, and mentor and tutor other students. The Hmong Instructor Aide must report to the Program Assistant regarding questions about the curriculum, student assessments, classroom management, and other concerns. The ideal candidate is a passionate and enthusiastic individual with experience and knowledge of the Hmong language and culture who can make this summer memorable for our students.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist instructors in classroom preparations, teaching, and supervision of students.
Support instructors in leading physical or enrichment activities.
Provide 1:1 or small group Hmong language intervention.
Attend personal and professional training as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Director.
Perform other duties as assigned by the instructor, Program Coordinator, or supervising staff.
Promptly communicate concerns and suggestions to the Program Coordinator.
Participate in a Youth Mentorship Circle and develop a final project.
If an intern cannot attend their scheduled work hours, they are required to email the Program Coordinator and the Director of Youth and Family Development before being absent. Failure to do so may result in a write-up or termination.
QUALIFICATIONS
Twin Rivers Unified School District high school youth.
Ability to read, write, and speak Hmong and English at a level necessary for supporting students.
Interest and enthusiasm in teaching the Hmong language, culture, and identity to youth and peers.
Applicants must be able to submit right-to-work documents that establish both identity and employment authorization. The most common acceptable documents are a photo identification card and a signed Social Security card.
