Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is seeking Hmong Instructors to provide instructional services for 15 to 20 incoming K-12 students participating in HYPU’s Hmong Enrichment Summer Camp (HESC). In partnership with Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD), the HESC is a 6-week summer program promoting Hmong and English language literacy, Hmong American History, and cultural awareness through music, art, and various physical activities. HESC values student learning through fun and structured activities, building relationships with teachers and peers, and embracing language, culture, and diversity.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is an entry-level teaching position. The Hmong Instructor will serve as an independent contractor providing instructional services in age/grade appropriate Hmong language, literacy, and enrichment activities that will inspire and prepare every scholar with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to the community; and engage in a lifetime of learning.
The Contractor will be responsible for leading a classroom of approximately 15-20 students and implementing HESC’s curriculum (may include phonics and literacy) for the appropriate grade levels, in alignment with the program expectations and learning objectives.
The Contractor will coordinate and report to the Program Coordinator regarding curriculum guidance, student assessments and progress, classroom management, and other program-related matters. The ideal candidate is a passionate and enthusiastic individual with experience and knowledge of the Hmong language and culture, capable of creating a positive and memorable learning environment for our students.

Monday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
*Friday - Working hours vary based on scheduled Field Trips and Family Nights.
CLASSIFICATION

Reports to: Program Coordinator and/or Program Director, Hmong Youth and Parents United
Work Location: TRUSD school site to be assigned, plus required training session at designated training location to be determined.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, organize, implement, and instruct age/grade-appropriate lessons for the selected grade levels of students in the summer program
Plan, organized, implemented, and instructed age/grade-appropriate history, enrichment, and mental wellness lessons for the selected grade levels of students in the summer program
Plan and facilitate small group intervention with students while focusing on individual needs
Keep a record of student attendance and track their progress.
Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to classroom policies and administrative regulation
Supervise students, uphold and reinforce administrative regulations throughout the program while building positive relationships with students
Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of lessons, activities, and events with the Program Coordinator to ensure measurable student learning outcomes.
Participate in inventory, care, and maintenance of facilities and equipment
Provide quality interaction with parents, students, instructional aide, and program coordinator
Inform student’s parents about their children's performance.
Use data to reflect on the effectiveness of lessons and student achievement progress to improve instruction and personal practice.
Participate in weekly site staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities
Perform related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Desire to work in the classroom, or currently pursuing a teaching credential, or currently possess a teaching credential OR a current college student with at least 48 college units OR a college graduate
Ability to read, write, and speak Hmong and English at a level necessary for planning and implementing curriculum
Experience working with children, youth, and families from diverse backgrounds
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Because this position supports a student-serving program on a district site, the selected contractor must comply with all applicable safety and clearance requirements before beginning on-campus duties or student interaction. These requirements may include fingerprinting, Department of Justice/FBI clearance through district processes, tuberculosis clearance, visitor management procedures, and adherence to district health, safety, and conduct rules.
PHYSICAL AND WORK DEMANDS
This role may require frequent movement across campus spaces, standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying program materials, and supervising indoor and outdoor activities during summer conditions. The contractor must be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.
COMPENSATION
HYPU agrees to provide the Contractor with a total stipend of $4,752 dollars for completion of the agreed‑upon instructional services for the 2026 HESC session. Payment schedule and method will be specified in a separate contract or addendum and may be contingent upon completion of required days, submission of required documentation, and satisfactory performance of duties.
